November Update

Comments from our President

With our Junior and Senior seasons now well and truly done and dusted, and our trophy presentation and awards events now concluded, our 2021 Club activities are almost all done. Only a couple more things remain for us to work through before we all head into Christmas and the New Year for a welcome break to relax and recharge.

Some ongoing maintenance bits and pieces will continue as they always do at this time (you may have noticed the pitches have been top dressed in recent weeks to help remediate our turf ahead of the new 2022 season) and some informal get-togethers will also be happening over the coming weeks for a few members keen to have some post-season kick-abouts as things wind down for the year. We’ve also (after many years of asking!) finally secured a sea container from the City of Swan to replace the old goals cage that had become an eyesore as well as a danger to the public in certain respects. It does need a little TLC however to bring it up to scratch and hopefully we can get some cleaning and painting activities happening in the near future so we can put this new storage facility to good use in the new year.

Our upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) is then the last major thing for our Committee to tick off this year with this one being of considerable significance, not only for the Club, but for myself as President. In case you haven’t heard, my partner Leonie (our current Club Registrar) and I will be stepping down from the Committee at this year’s AGM. After 24 years involvement with the Club, we have decided that we are ‘well past our use by dates’ and that it is time to pass the baton on to some younger Club stalwarts to lead us into and through the years to come. We have many wonderful memories and have accomplished many good things throughout our involvement with our great Club, and have also met some fantastic people that are like family to us and that we honestly and proudly regard as close friends.

Please remember to like and follow us on Facebook for regular updates and information about upcoming activities, events and games, and be sure to check out our new website which is scheduled be rolled out over the coming weeks. Ballajura AFC is, if nothing else, a strong community Club with an overarching sense of family, and we wish everyone at all levels within the Club the very best for the future and hope to say farewell in person to many of you at the AGM on Sunday 28th November. (NB. We won’t be too far away and still anticipate getting to loads of home and away games, so you haven’t seen the back of us just yet )

GO BALLA!!

Regards, Mike Peverley (President)

Junior Trophy Presentation Day

Our Junior Trophy Presentation Day was held on Sunday 17th October at which participation awards were handed out to all of our wonderful Ballajura AFC MiniRoos Players who also enjoyed a free drink and sausage sizzle on the day. A strong turnout of players and families enjoyed the plentiful sunshine and activities that were provided, including bouncy castles, skills games and of course some impromptu games of football on the various small sided pitches that had been set-up.

A special mention goes to our 11s Grey Metro Team who were announced at the presentation day as our Team of the Year for 2021 (across all Junior and Senior teams for our Club), the first Miniroos team to ever be awarded this accolade since the award has been presented.

Congratulations to all of the children who represented Balla this year and who helped deliver another great junior season for the Club, and we look forward to seeing all of our kids back again for more fun and football next year. Details of our 2022 registration process and key dates will be sent to all members via email in December/January, and notices will also be posted on the Club’s Facebook page.

(NB. If there are any junior players who did not collect trophies or pre-ordered photographs, these will be available at the clubrooms at our AGM on 28th November)

Senior Awards Presentation Night

The Senior Awards Presentation Night has become one of the most anticipated events on the Club’s social calendar. This year this fabulous night was once again held in the Botanicals Room at Crown Resort on Friday, 12 November 2021 and was enjoyed by players, coaches, Committee members and guests alike. Attendance at this event has been growing year on year and it is great to see an increasing number of ‘other halves’ coming along and enjoying the celebrations and presentations.

A huge vote of thanks is due to Christina Earley for the tremendous work she put into the logistical organising of the event. Looking ahead to 2022, it is strongly recommended that people get their reservations sorted as early as possible once event details are announced to avoid disappointment.

The event of course includes the announcement of numerous awards for our senior team players, as well as several other important achievements and awards which are also recognised on the night. The stories and banter behind many of the awards and their winners also adds to the entertainment with this year being no different with some often frank and humorous anecdotes being shared by our senior coaches and team leaders.
