APRIL 2023 UPDATE

Comments from our President       David_Shephard

Welcome to season 2023! A new season is upon us with the 1st Round of senior fixtures getting underway this Sunday 16th April at our home ground. Our Senior Amateur Men play at home against Perth AFC, with the Reserves kicking off at 1:00pm and our First Team kicking off at 3:00pm. Our Women’s team is also in action this weekend in the Women’s League Cup against Subiaco AFC (1:00pm kick-off on Pitch B).

Junior & MiniRoos fixtures are scheduled to get underway on Sunday 30th April. With Football West still fine tuning the fixtures for a number of leagues both senior and junior, it is important to keep in contact with your coaches who will be able to advise you of upcoming game times and any last-minute changes that may occur.

2023 has delivered a large increase in Club membership across both junior and senior sections of the Club, which is fantastic to see. For the first-time in a long while, we have two or more teams across most of our junior age groups, including a new all-girls Under 12s team. This is the first time in the history of our Club that we will see a junior girl’s side represent BAFC and we are excited to see them in action come Round 1. With all these extra teams on-board in 2023, our Club Registrar Christina has been working hard to plan home and away preferred fixture times for all of our teams which has been a very challenging and ongoing task.

With the large increase in memberships and teams for 2023, it is important for all coaches, players and supporters to please be patient and respectful of our other teams during mid-week training sessions. Tuesday nights for example see a lot of training taking place and we need to work together to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible. Having everyone doing their bit to maintain our equipment storage areas as neat and organised as we can is also greatly appreciated.

The Club is also excited to announce the Canteen have purchased a Conti 2 cup coffee machine which will hopefully be delivered and installed for the start of Round 1. The purchase of this machine would not have been possible without the generosity of our sponsors Acclaimed Catering, Superb Lawns & Gardens, Pool Logic and Pool Robotics Perth to whom we are most grateful.

Finally, don’t forget that we are also now more active on our social media platforms, so please remember to like and view us on our Facebook and Instagram pages for regular updates and information about upcoming activities, events and games (and not to forget our regularly updated Website as well).

Good luck to all our members for the start of season 2023 and I will be sure to see you all around the Club.

Best Regards

David Shephard (President)

Belt Up Amateur Men’s Cup

Our Amateur Men’s teams kicked off their season on Monday 10th April, participating in the Belt Up Amateur Cup. Playing against higher division Ellenbrook United, it was always going to be a good test for both our sides who have been working hard in the pre-season.

Our Reserve side played some strong football and converted their chances in front of goal, coming away 3-0 winners. Our First team went 1-0 ahead early, only to then have to come from behind on three occasions to finish the match 4-4. With the match going to penalties, Ballajura keeper Andy Craster pulled off a great save to deny Ellenbrook’s first penalty. This was enough to give us the edge in the shoot-out, as the boys from Balla slotted home all 5 of their penalties to secure victory!

Ian Dennis Charity Match

Ballajura AFC were once again proud to host the annual Ian Dennis Charity Match on Saturday 25th March. This annual event is the brainchild of current Committee member and player Andy Craster and this year was in its third year.

Established to provide financial support to families suffering from a cancer related illness, this year saw the match live-streamed in the Club via YouTube, followed by a raffle, silent and live auctions of donated gifts from sponsors. The event raised some much-needed funds to help in taking some pressure off for a nominated family while they are dealing with their loved one’s treatment.

The event would not have been possible without the generosity of sponsors and volunteers to run the event. We would again like to congratulate Andy and his team for a well-run event and look forward to being part of it again in 2024. If you would like more details about the Ian Dennis Charity Match, you can find them at the following link – www.iandennischaritymatch.com.au.

BAFC Membership Cards

Junior Trophy Presentation Day After an initial false start last year, our new Club Membership Cards have now been printed and will be distributed to all members over the coming weeks. The cards will be issued on a 1 card per member family basis and will entitle card holders to specific discounts at participating businesses and sponsors. A list of those participating businesses will appear on the BAFC website soon and we encourage everyone to get behind this initiative and support these businesses where possible (and save themselves some $$ in the process).

Club Merchandise

The Club is excited to announce the introduction of an online store for the purchase of club merchandise. Partnered with Onside Sports Malaga, the online store gives our members access to a number of new merchandise lines including bags, hoodies, training tops and rain jackets. Follow this link to visit our new online store – BAFC Online Store.

BAFC Old Strips Donated

Following a major clean-out of our storeroom a few weeks back now (thanks heaps to those Committee members that helped with this arduous task), we noted that we had been hanging onto numerous obsolete kits from previous years. Rather than just bin these or drop them into clothing recycle bins, our Secretary Leonie identified the RePlay charity which collects unwanted sports clothing from around Australia and sends them on to under-privileged and developing communities overseas.

Junior Trophy Presentation Day Getting the old kits across to Sydney post COVID looked like it may have put paid to this initiative, but with the help of our new friends Aramex who offered to transport our kits to Sydney free of charge, we were able to ensure they would be put to good use for those in need. Huge thanks to Aramex for stepping up and helping us with this very worthwhile initiative.

30th Anninversary of BAFC

2023 marks the 30th anniversary for Ballajura AFC. This milestone could not have been reached without the contribution of our Founding Members, Life Members, Committee, players and supporters who have all contributed to the growth and success of the Club.

Stay tuned for details of events throughout the year to celebrate this milestone – and we would also welcome any suggestions from our members about other opportunities or ideas to recognise our 30th anniversary.
